The unfolding flames, who dress in soot and ember
Who confess to every desire, that the shadows hid
Who spill out upon their wooden frames
And consume all in the eyes of lovers
Provide light, divide night into disparate pockets
Of darkness, walls drawn in bright oranges and
Blues, that shine upon the faces of her admirers
We keep no secrets here, we glimpse years
In the space of moments, memories drawn
Into the dancing spires of dawn, that kindly remind us
Our time has come, to come home
To address the corpses we have become
To ignite the sparks that have settled upon our bones
She cauterizes wounds, and scars those
Who come too close, and I've a drink to equal
The warmth, that I may burn to the core
In these hours that lie canvassed before me
In the unfolding flames, I am reminded of all
I would miss, should the darkness insist
On closing in, save this light, feed the coals
And in this night, you will find yourself wholly
Alive.
