A Light in the Dark

The fire rising
Swallows the soul
Banishes the cold
From this world
Turns to ash
All that held you back
Casts away shackles
For molten steel
To forge stronger that
Which has room to breathe
But dies without air
Enlightens shadows
Brightens corridors
Left untraveled
In nights dressed black
By Selene's hesitance
Dare you rise, you'll find
A new life, new light
A brightened sky
Where one might dance
With Helios, who has long known
How to return from the grave
The fire rising
Engulfs the soul
Cauterizes the wounds of the bold
Who dare endeavour
To fight, to sway minds
With tendrils of their own warm blood
Flickering and whispering
Into the wind
I rise, within the mind
I am designed to die
Slow, that you may be made whole
In the moments before I go
In the warmth where once
Only god and goddess would consort
I, the fire, am betrothed to the night before
And the day that follows
I see all, from what lies behind
The most stubborn of shades
To the skies that define
The brightest of days
And I am rising
Feeding on my own core
Pressing my fingertips into
The flesh at your shores
In each quiet collision reborn
As something more
I beckon, come die with me
Embrace as embers
All you have burned for
The ignition you have yearned for
Since before your lips mouthed the words.
