I have gazed into the eyes of god
Long enough to show the devil's reflection
I have lived at the core of the fire
Long enough to expose what burns in me
I have chewed on the wings of angels
Long enough to know the trajectories of the fallen
I have cut into the flesh of dreams
Deep enough to see a heart still beating
I swim in the abyss of my thoughts
Blackened and bright and ever-evolving
Whose elements converge on the highways
Of a strangled mind, extricate them from clenched fists
The weak-willed blanket me with lead
A futile attempt at binding me in death
But I have seen through eyes long blinded
A light beyond their depths
And for all the darkness that swells within me
It is pure fire you taste on my lips
I have gazed into the eyes of the lost
Long enough to show their unsettled debts
I have lived bound tight to your cross
Long enough to bleed out every weakness
I have chewed on the sinew of a sinner
Long enough to know the taste of the false
I have cut into the truth of a savior
Deep enough to see through the vapors
To a world free from the confines of order
To a world designed without borders
Whose heavens, each morning
Reach down to kiss her shores.
