Cassiopeia

I saw a star whose eyes never closed
Who stood, early morning, her courageous
Denial, of the monopolistic sun
A star whose light would dress
In degrees of luminescence
Who blinded in evenings, preparation for
Lighting the way, as the sun fell
And the moon hid behind the forest
Who stood proud and nude before the morning
And swore, "You've nothing to restrain me"
I caught a star whose fires never quit
And I dressed in them, fires whose warmth
Seared my skin, and blessed it
Who peered within, and objected
To every shattered glass second
Spent beneath an ocean of intoxication
A blurred eulogy for the gods who walk amongst men
And I among them, had no recourse
For her dress, the way it shifted across her hips
The way it kissed her ankles gentle
And devoured my feigned resistance
I saw a star who let me in, who led me from hell
To her bed, who kissed the scent of alcohol from my skin
Who cut deep, just so she could stitch me up again
I saw a star who fell, when no one else was watching
I saw a star who swelled, beneath the bruising silence
I saw a star who killed, every ailment that befell me
I saw a star who spilled, her secrets into my dreams
Who begged me hold her fast, before her light passed
Into the darkness, I saw a star empty her all into me
Who burned so bright, that to this day
Her memory ignites me
Oh, I have seen the light
Better than any other ever could
By virtue of the darkness I so loved
Before the first spark of the fire.
