Whispered elegance in a hospital gown
Floating gracefully, inches above the ground
Slipping in and out of consciousness
As you take my words and bend them into art and war
The wading pool of thoughts that appeared so shallow
Has always been deep enough to drown you in a teaspoon
Stirring the cup of entropy with the velocity of a hurricane
Spinning the world down this open drain
Spiraling down into the core of your own animosity
Gratuitous lettering in a virtuoso symphony
Twisting your neck to see nothing behind you
But panes of glass shattered still reflecting the truth
A cluttered maze of memories and their repercussions
And the thought to wake is the last after this concussion
Lost in the confusion as you adapt to false surroundings
Walls that confounded you but never bound me
For your enmity, I am not the enemy
So you consume this meal of a thousand discourses
And the meat is too tough and the drink is coarse with
Grains of disgust and regret that stick to your tongue
You bite into your fork and it splits you from some
But never mind them if they feel the need to run
On my lack of opacity, you were never meant to see me
Bury the hymns in the droning of sin
Pull yourself up and give your all to this
Give credence to the chaotic gathering of paper and pen
And the quick sharp movements of the hand that controls them
How I admire these starless skies, know you can't see through
Discarded eyes and retreating youth, blind to my truth
Cellophane thoughts drugged and drug across these sidewalks
Who is at fault, who has been caught
Not I, I tame the darkest of demons, command them to fly
Who will fall, when the time comes to die
When we sit quiet and lie screaming, embrace the violence
Of nights spent dreaming, of bleeding loosely these words
She heard them coming, closed the door and started running
And what for, from what future war do you retreat
I am your defeat, your victory, I am the prize on the wall
And the dog howling in the street
On my dying breath, I swear, I was never meant to be.
