The sky holds the echoes of nights long spent
Drawn in lights across the vast expanse
Where words were exchanged for deep breaths
Where the soul rested quietly upon our lips
She strips the day from her flesh
Beckons me without a word spoken
As she turns up the heat, and leaves the cold
Unopened, slinks past the curtain
I escape all that has been tainted
By some other world, where we have only been
Hopeless
She turns her face, eyes pleading me
Cleanse me of that lesser fate, for the evening
I draw the cloth across her back
Watch the steam rise from each tiny collision
Of water and fire, of lovers and their desire
I don't know if I'm here or there
Or where she learned to walk on air
I just watch, transfixed
As the robe come to rest
Across her shoulders and around her chest
Watch her smile and bite her lip
And lead the way to a thousand planes
Where only we exist
Trade the day and its banal fates
For a night spent charting the heavens
Where the interplay of flesh and soul
Swallows us whole, freed of inhibitions
Pleading with all we know
That this fire is never extinguished
That through the filth of days to come
These nights remain untarnished.
