Flesh and Bone

I, who have reigned so long
I, who have borne this crown
I, who have conquered worlds
Who has seen a petal wilt
'Fore a new blossom came forth
Who has commanded the skies
Who has absconded with life
Who has seen a world stilled
By a single word spilled
I, who have come so far
I, who have named the stars
I, who have become the art
Of the bloodied and beaten
Who has dreamed a candle lit
And watched worlds burn
Who has lived a thousand lives
In the blink of a tear-streaked eye
I have worn these walls with my screams
Weakened these bars with my dreams
I have brought the blood soaked sun
Down across shadowy horizons
I have conquered death
With the measured movements of my pen
Scrawled my name into the darkest places
Writ a eulogy that will never be read
I have emptied glasses with murd'rous intent
I have chaptered and sentenced all that I am
Scattered each page 'cross the hearts
Of a thousand desperate souls, each made whole
By the letters contained therein
I have lived in the fingertips of lovers
Who dared taste the forbidden
Who sinned without repentance
And learnt passion in the face
Of consequence, I have been
I have existed, I have lived
And accomplished all these wondrous feats
Through a million bottles of ink
Who shared with me their dreams
Their desires, their needs
Who shared with me a fire that refuses to blink
Even in the face of the greatest winds
What man would dare fault me, for giving it all
Whose mundane world would never unfurl
Into something to be considered living at all
I, who have reigned so long
I, who have named the stars
I, who have known both martyr and murderer
Within the walls of my own heart
I hunger for more, lust for the war
That can only be provided
By the devil inside me
That can only be decided
By the end of dreams, that have and will ever be
Eternal.
