In the Heart of the Fire

"You tap into the energy beneath the skin, your flesh tingles, your mind expands, your breath deepens, and you can see the tides rolling in over miles of darkened sand. There's a hint of kerosene in the air, the molecules around you are pregnant with expectation, the world falls away. No more voices, no more eyes, no one else is here but you and the fire."

She flows around me, this red-orange angel
Swims through my consciousness, spins round my fingers
Builds a bridge between the physical and the spirit
Sears the sky behind her, wears the fire she was born in
Forges a world where only the soul exists
Pure emotion, tracing eights and eyes across planes
We become multidimensional together, tether worlds with the strength
Of lovers, I bring her close to my chest, feel her warmth
Burning the filth of my own imperfections from my flesh
I let her go, watch her spiral towards the heavens
Twin dragons chasing the spaces between us
She races back to me, wraps around my ankles, begs to carry me
Away, dances around me, embracing the spiral upward
Til she's over my head, opening a portal to freedom
Of expression, a screaming voice protesting my static existence
I spin with her, wrap her around my hands
I live for this moment, give all that I have
For her light against the darkness
For the eyes that grant me sight, for the purity of that moment
When the fire dies, and I breathe
Transported back from the world I lived in
Those moments
I am hopeless, she is transcendent
I am broken, and she is flawless
And when we dance, there are only secrets between us
Only the rhythm of her breathing, and my love
For the heat she brings, to the core of me
She flows around me, grows from candlelight to inferno
And I am a phoenix, risen from ash and bone
I am free, to become the point of contact
Between the world where I was born and
The world I've come to know
To dance across the borders of the soul
To collect the pieces that make me whole
We burn bright, twin stars on a clear night
And when we die, it will be because we have expended everything
Ascended beyond dreams, to a world that runs parallel to reality
Some will claim her my funeral pyre
Some will blame her when I expire
What they don't see is that what I live for
I have found, in the heart of the fire.
