Yesterday

All along the skies were gone
Spires left to gut the sun
And their shadows fall over in the cold
I bury my last hope between splintered thoughts
Some havoc wrought, the overactive imagination
Leads the mind far from the spaces
Where we burned, I learned to never turn
Away, and what we earned, I spurned
All along the lies were ours
Tired eyes who shunned the stars
And our shadows spelled out to the ghosts
The tragic story we told, I'm told you knew
Some secret well-hid, between penance and the penchant
For destruction, each eruption came
You looked straight through them
Each disruption stayed your hands a moment
Til you couldn't touch me again

All along these lines of dust
Came to bathe us in chemical lust
And our demons left us to detritus
Floating along the edge of dusk
When the fires come, you'd whisper
They'll take everything you live for
When the fires come, I assured
I would burn like no other
And scar any who would claim me
A lover.
