Heaven wore a tarnished ring
And lived beneath the overpass
And Heaven swore ev'ry time she'd speak
And called the rest of us crass
Maybe Heaven hadn't time to dream
But her waking hours were fantastical things
Heaven bore a broken heart
And never showed it to another
And Heaven watched each soul depart
And called them her lost lovers
Maybe Heaven hadn't a mirror to see
But her broken smile was a beautiful thing
Heaven would spend a quiet day
To purchase a wild night
And when Heaven left, we were left to face
Under-the-overpass without her light
Maybe Heaven hadn't time to live
But she taught us that we'd no right to die.
