She asked if I had found God yet
My Ariadne loved to play the game
She asked if I had found love yet
And dared me speak her name
She waited 'til the check came
To tell me she wasn't hungry
She waited 'til a rainy day
To tell me she was leaving
My Ariadne loved to stay up all night
And wake me up in the morning
She lived for every little fight
Said it made for a better story
She asked if I had something to say
Then turned on the TV
She asked if I would like to stay
Then walked me to the street
And I held on, and wrote long
Poems addressed to her
And she read them all, and crossed her arms
Said they were only words
And so I left, and never told
A whisper of where I'd come from
And so she said, I'd never know
Just how much I had given up
My Ariadne loved to drink the days
Til they were emptied of their light
She'd scream that I could not be saved
And cry, 'cause she just might
She asked if I found another yet
My Ariadne loved to play it cool
And I'd say, I've a few lovers left
And she'd pretend it was true
Ariadne loathed to pay her debts
Of which her heart was one
So she'd kiss my cheek and wish me the best
And the next moment she'd be gone.
