Networking

I welcome the machine
Cold inputs dressed in
The glow of the screen
Tapping fingers
Across rows of neatly ordered keys
I watch the words
Appear, are you reading my mind
Just as I write it?
Punctuated here and there
With questions and
Exclamations
Do you know which letters bear
The brunt of my fingertips
Most, which keys play host to
Emotions, 'til they're compacted and
Gang-planked off into the
Ether, where eyes I've never seen
Will glance at them with
Disinterest, or worse,
Understanding
I welcome the machine
That would dare classify
These morose and wordy musings
Poetry
I envy the network
In its bonds and efficiency
For its social hunger
As it slowly degrades my own.
