An Accusation of Arson

She's a tidal swell, coming over the hills
Today, the beach has returned to the ocean
She's a rogue cell, plotting her kill
Today, the righteous are devoted to their sins
When the moment comes, the moment goes
When the world's undone, we are made whole
Standing here, alone, the fire swallows home
Behind us, plumes of smoke hide us
From wild speculation, the child in you screams this
Is no life, even for the wicked, there is no time for this
Indifference, just a line, a sign, a head-trip
That left us lying breathless
When the gray-eyed remnants of a cigarette
Rose up from the carpet, and the embers of our
Well-burnt hearts mingled with the curtains
Gave rise to our passion, and forced us to abandon
All we wished for and never had
She's a bridal veil, covering a face paled
Since the day that we ceased breathing
She's a funeral pyre, that came in over the wire
An accusation of arson
When the moment comes
Will the motive go
Or will we burn
What we've yearned
To keep close
When the world's undone
Will we be whole
Or will we scatter
What we've battled
To hold?
