Our Fellow Man

I am certain there are those of you who are
Quite proud of yourself
When you stand up and tell the world
That they deserve no quarter
Lest you have your own
And I don't have many
Words for you, but here are a few
If I may
The world cannot be saved
Through selfishness
The world cannot thrive under the weight
Of an us and them philosophy
It is all of us
This world, encompassing
The poor, the rich
The broken-spirited, and the blessed
So tonight, should you kneel
Before any deity, or even just
The stars
Remember every soul
Leave no shadows in your heart
Deprive no human being
Of love, for should that day come
That life finds you in dire circumstance
There are those among us
Who would not hesitate
To extend our tired, poor fingers
To lift you from the mud
Rinse you of your troubles
Regardless
Of whether you would do the same.
