Meteor Showers

The meteor showers
Come call with their rain
The season is ours
But the day is the same
All of the windows
Are shut on our veins
And the keepers and widows
Don't know what to say
The meat eaters sing
And chew on their smiles
And our tears keep chasing her
Right down the aisle
Our cheekbones start singing
Of moments devoured
And we keep on breathing
This poison of ours
What is the answer
She says with a laugh
This cancer keeps coming and
I have nothing left
I took her will
And read it aloud
And she gave everything
To this child of ours
No one came back
To the cage on that day
And the wind at our backs
We ran so far away
Nobody asked
They just opened the gates
And the flood waters came
And they took her away
We cast our hats
To the floor and compiled
A collection of songs
To calm us awhile
We sang the chorus
And let the verses go wild
We have no voices
Just bones and our smiles
The sleepwalker stepped
On the stone in the garden
It creaked when he left
But she slept through the night
And the water keeps running
Down the sides of our lies
We let her die
And we mourned for our loss
But left alone thoughts that
She deserved what she got
We watched her cry
To every god with a name
And we let her die
And we took no blame
The meteor showers
Come call with their rain
The season is ours but
The day is the same.
