Moments Fade, An Angels End

I know you from
The letters scrawled in the palm of my hand
The passionate debates
With the voices in my head
They said
Don't let this one get away
I did
Don't let this world turn gray
And I painted it colorless
The stain on a lover's dress
The days that we spent
So distant now, I wonder how
They could ever have existed
They did
I know you from
The second line of every poem
The night before the show
When you came down from those careful-drawn clouds
And said "Now I am without
Love"
And I watched you every night
On the stage
And I culled the weight from within my mind
That we might fly away
And darkness came
And bore her shadows
Across the stage
The lights dimmed
The curtain fell
And you were gone away
But behind the doors we never opened
Lies something more
I know you from
The scars that hardened my heart
The lips that softened it again
The smile that inspired my art
And the absence that silenced me
Just as quick
I have long lain amongst these stars
For the fires remind me of you
And when they supernova, there we are
Another night, another life
The flash photography of heaven
Holds you forever
Where you went, I can't say
But where you've been always
Within me

So I played at a god
Erased every
Flaw
That I could somehow be worthy
Of you
And all that was lost
No matter the cost
Still my heart
Stays true
I know you from
The holes in my skies
I know you from
The tears in my eyes
And where the world may have forgotten
What transpired
I hold it in my
Cells
I keep you in my
Spell
I know you from
The rest of me
That last sip of whiskey says your
Warming me
The last days of the season bring you
Close to me

I know you from
The letters scrawled
In the palm
Of my hand
A lover lost so long ago
An ocean risen and fell
As every moment falters
I swallow my words
Save them in my stomach
For your altar
For your lips
For your heart
Someday, I will return to it

I see you every night
In the quiet places
Of my thoughts
And though some stars flicker and fade
You are the one I never
Forgot.
